Evaluation of the Influence Exerted by Increased Silicon Contents on the Leaching Behavior of NMC-Based Black Mass

The further development of lithium-ion batteries leads to an improvement in power densities as well safety and thus requires optimization the materials used. For this purpose, among other approaches, anode are doped with silicon oxide or metallic is used anode. However, a semimetal known lead formation jelly-like fluids hydrometallurgical processes under certain conditions. This publication evaluates which parameters responsible for viscosity change leaching solutions during recycling examines corresponding reaction mechanism behind phenomenon. Furthermore, efficiency valuable metals nickel, cobalt, lithium manganese evaluated influence different contents solution investigated. It could be shown that, especially simultaneous presence H2SO4, H2O2 Si SiO2, significant increase due metasilicic acid and, accordingly, efficiencies negatively influenced.
